Inspired by the fantastic book and film "Paper Planes" they have produced fabulous origami, drawings and videos. On Saturday January 16 there will be a special screening of this wonderful Australian movie"Paper Planes" in the Soldiers Club Auditorium at 1pm. "Paper Planes" is an imaginative children's film about a young Australian boy's passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan. There's no such thing as a dump. Explore a rainforest , discover the sounds, story and atmosphere in this remarkable exhibition. Debra Liel-Brown

Acrylics on paper. Meditation has been a dominant factor in Debra's art. She uses it to produce paintings that are designed to slow down and still the viewer's mind. At first glance, the paintings appear quite busy, but then the interlocking rhythms pull the viewer's eye through the scene. Debra has been exhibiting her work in group shows since 1975 and her first solo exhibition in 1986 at Nidus Gallery in Sydney, was a sellout. Debra has continued to exhibit over the years and also has an impressive list of mural works to her name. Debra will be in the gallery on each Saturday and Sunday of her exhibition and welcomes visitors to come in and talk to her about her art. Debra has her own studio in Raymond Terrace where she also welcomes visitors.

Gloucester High School

HSC Students 2016

An opening event for students, teachers, family & friends will be at 6pm on Friday 12th. ALL WELCOME, PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THE STUDENTS. Gloucester High School students attempting the HSC Visual Art course have created their work over 12 months and developed their material and conceptual practice to create a Body of Work. The students select a media area, referred to as an "expressive form", to work with to complete their artwork. The students are marked on the depth of engagement that they achieve in their body of work. Works are marked out of fifty and receive a school based mark known as an internal mark and then they are marked by a team of markers from the Board of Studies which represents the external mark. Any work that achieves a top 10% mark will be automatically considered for Artexpress 2016 students bring a variety of forms and ideas to the exhibition displaying a range of depth and skill in their final works. These students have worked consistently for the past months to get their work to the high standard that is on display here.

Spring 2016 exhibition

Gloucester Art Society

The annual Gloucester Art Society exhibition 'Brushing up on watercolour skills'. Opening night is Friday 9th at 6.30 with everybody welcome to join the artists for nibbles & drinks to celebrate their works. Recently a wonderful opportunity presented itself for members of Gloucester Art Society when central Coast Watercolour Society booked Victorian Master Watercolourist Ev Hales to tutor a workshop for their group. Gloucester Art group jumped at the opportunity, shared the airfare and Ev was available to come two days early to enjoy Gloucester's wonderful scenery. 11 members experienced Plein Air watercolour, some for the first time, which was terrifying. She led us through the process of selecting our scene from the Gloucester railway car park to getting colour onto paper. That afternoon after returning to the studio we learned how to pull it together. Friday we worked from our photographs learning how to control edges & understanding the patterns of light & dark that make exciting paintings. Everyone is stimulated to produce new works for the Art Society's annual exhibition at The Gloucester Gallery

Renewal

Christine Du Fresne and Louise Young

OFFICIAL OPENING - Saturday 15th October 2016 at 2pm Come and meet the artists. Christine Du Fresne uses figuration in her paintings to suggest - through body language - the ways in which we so often misread people and circumstances. She uses humour and theatricality in her creation of tableaus so that the arrangement of figures becomes as a pageant, full of colour and movement, most often represented on a shallow stage. The figures - most in bathing suits - personify our self-conscious states. Some airborne figures express a wiser or more pragmatic state. Louise Young is an art conservator and sculptor but she is just coming back to her art after a long break. Her work currently explores the beauty found within everyday discarded objects. Louise pulls apart obsolete and broken items, and goes on a journey of discovery to what lies within. The various elements found become her raw materials. She then assembles disparate yet harmonious pieces to form something new, giving life to that which was destined for the scrap heap and putting on show the beauty that was hidden from view. This new direction is congruent with her beliefs about conservation and recycling and is her way to honour all that our beautiful, fragile planet offers.
