Vines, Vistas and Vibes - an exhibition of artworks by Lyn Bemet and Joy Cooksey. April 25th to May19th.
Painting by Joy and contemporary basketry by Lyn.
Joy’s paintings convey her connection to the world through painting her memories, observations and imaginings, depicting the various times and places she has journeyed through. She believes paintings are like music and writing which all help us to navigate through life.
Lyn uses natural fibres in her handwoven often sculptural basketry pieces for which she collects materials from the bush and these represent her connection to her surroundings.
“The last two years has seen my Art develop to include Contemporary basketry for which I have become passionate.
With the mention of basketry many think of the woven traditional baskets, however my creations extend to include unusual shaped vessels, sculptural pieces and of course baskets that are unique and one of a kind.
The use of plants and other natural fibres are important in my weaving process and with the recent discovery of hemp fibre and linen I am able to include bright colours into vessels which I call “ Weed pods”, (or as many refer to them as “ squashy ones” because these pods are very tactile).
The embellishment is the final stage using beads and buttons etc. and is the fun part, although,I must admit its all fun…”
Lyn will be working in the Gallery during the exhibitions and conducting a two day workshop, also in the Gallery on 13th and 14th May. These workshops are almost fully booked however you are welcome to coem along and observe if you are interested to learn more.
Bookings for the last remaining spot on the Tuesday is at Uptown Country, 23 Denison St, Gloucester or call the Gallery Director on 0425 203 877.

Gloucester Arts & Cultural Council Incorporated (GACCI) is a not for profit volunteer run community arts organisation that was established in 1999 by a group of art minded community members to foster “Art for All”  and celebrate our community's art and culture in our small farming town of Gloucester in the hinterland of the Barrington Coast.

GACCI presents musical performances and theatrical shows across the year. We provide support for local artists, thespians and musicians to further their chosen interest in whatever way we can. We enjoy the support through membership of approximately 70 to 80 members and new members are always welcome.

The GACCI players were formed in 2001 and continue to perform two shows a year, usually a comedy and a pantomime, they have a regular group of amateur theatre enthusiasts of all ages, that fluctuate in number according to the performance requirements.
Gloucester Gallery was created under the umbrella of GACCI and has grown into a well loved and valuable community exhibition space, providing a quality arena for local artists to exhibit their work and for visiting artists and traveling exhibitions to enhance the arts experience for locals and visitors in our town.
Workshops are regularly presented in theatre and in diverse art mediums, for children, youth and adults.
Over the years GACCI has presented a whole host of variety of entertainment in Gloucester including Flix in the Stix, Skits in the Stix and the annual photography competition and exhibition ‘Pix from the Stix’, which still continues and is held in July each year with a Prize pool of $1500.
Many other wonderful and quality shows have been presented, some annually, including ‘Big Nite In’ the talent event for the youth in our town and several stage acts by acclaimed performing arts group Critical Stages.
